The Anancy Festival was founded by Xavier Murphy

Over the past several years, the Anancy Festival has been held in multiple cities across the United States, including cities in Florida, and various countries across the world. The Festival, named for (Anansi, Ananse, Anacy) the West African trickster of folklore, is a celebration of Caribbean culture that’s geared toward families and children of all ages. The Anancy Festival was founded by Xavier Murphy, also founder of the popular Jamaicans.com and his co-organizer, Dr. Andrea Shaw, Humanities Professor at Nova Southeastern University who is also a writer and scholar of African Diaspora studies. The idea behind the festival is to recapture the childhood allure of Anancy stories in the same lively intriguing, oral storytelling atmosphere that continues to appeal to participants of all ages.
